Engadin/St. Moritz
The holiday region Engadin St. Moritz is situated on the sunny side of the Swiss Alps, on the roof of Europe (1800 m.a.s.l.). Its sources feed the North Sea, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. It is ‘neighboured’ by Zurich, Milan and Munich.
The Upper Engadin is world-famous for its lake scenery and the valley is distinguished by an annual average of 322 days of sunshine, mineral springs and a very pleasant climate. Piz Bernina is the highest mountain of the Eastern Alps (4049m). Also well-known are Piz Palü, Corvatsch, Corviglia and Diavolezza, not only as mountains, but also as skiing areas. The region has been able to preserve its fascinating culture. At the same time it mirrors the globalised present: Romance is the main language, while it’s German in St. Moritz, Italian in the neighbouring valleys, French at Club Med and mainly English at the Cresta Run or events such as cricket, polo etc.<br>
G. Segantini and the Giacomettis, F. Nietzsche, R. Wagner, H. Hesse, Th. Mann, A. Toscanini, R. Strauss, H. v. Karajan and many more big names in art and culture coined the myth and aura of this valley. The Schlittedas, Chalandamarz as well as a distinctive architectural style (‘Engadin house’) and the famous Engadin nut cake have also contributed to it.
